Want to Feel Good? Celebrate Your Unbirthday Today

Yep, you read that right ☺️

Gosh, I am glad you were born.

Do you realize what a big deal it is that out of the bazillions of possible DNA combinations, just the right one happened so the world could know YOU?

It blows my mind. How did that happen?

I mean, I know how it happened. As awkward as it would be, I wish I could thank your parents.

Maybe you can do that for me.

Because you were born, we get to experience:

  • Your unique personality.
  • All of your quirkiness.
  • A sense of humor that’s entirely yours.
  • How you love like no one else.
  • Your gifts and skills and talents.
  • What matters to you.
  • Your particular views of the world.

Think about it. It’s amazing that YOU are here, reading this, now.

Truly, it is.

My question for you is, how are you celebrating you?

If you want to feel good, pause and lean into the fact that you are here at all. Have you ever done that?

With all of the odds stacked against your existence, you actually made it. There are so many reasons you are here. You were intentionally created, chosen from the very beginning. Your creator wanted you. You were carefully designed. You were supposed to be here at this time, in this place, giving to the world in the way that only you can.

There is nothing about you that is accidental.

It feels so good to acknowledge the fact that we exist on purpose, for a purpose.

So, back to the question: How are you celebrating you?

Let me give you an idea.

Throw yourself an unbirthday celebration.

Unless, of course, it really is your birthday, in which case, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, you wonderful soul!

The unbirthday celebration

Throw yourself an unbirthday celebration today. Whenever you are reading this. You received a gift when you woke up… did you recognize that you received it?

You got the gift of this day.

And what an incredible gift it is.

An unbirthday celebration can happen on any average day. Tuesday? Sure! Tuesdays are the perfect day to celebrate.

I am telling you right now, you do NOT have to wait till the weekend. Do you know with complete certainty that you will be here on the weekend? Do you really want to wait? Give yourself full permission to party today.

You woke up on this side of the grass. That is reason enough to be joyful.

So, the next question is… how? This is where it gets good.

Your unbirthday celebration is as unique as you are and could include anything that speaks to you, like:

  • Time alone, entirely quiet, filled with peace and solitude
  • Boisterous conversation with friends, family, a special coworker
  • Your favorite food in your favorite restaurant
  • An entirely new experience
  • Rest. Rest can be celebration
  • Making that one recipe that lights you up every single time
  • Cake for breakfast (our family’s favorite on our actual birthdays)
  • Loud music by your favorite artist
  • Visiting a meaningful place
  • Thanking your creator in prayer
  • Time with someone you haven’t seen in a while
  • Journaling the 50 things you are most grateful for in this moment
  • Making that phone call you’ve been putting off to tell someone they matter
  • Movement that makes you feel good… bopping your head, playing the drums, dancing, rollerskating, skiing, hockey, running, making snow angels, building sandcastles, hula hooping, biking, surfing…
  • Complete stillness. Focusing on your breathing, your heartbeat, your existence
  • Time in nature to soak up the wonder of the creation that you were an orchestrated part of
  • Snuggling with people and pets you love
  • Shopping for yourself, buying that one thing you’ve been putting off
  • Reaching out to someone in need
  • Spontaneously choosing whatever makes you feel most alive in the moment… because you can

We would love to know what elements you choose to include. How do you celebrate you? And how does it make you feel? Share with us in the comments below.

The bottom line is, you were born and the world is better because you are in it. We know it and we are thankful for you.

But, this is about feeling good. It feels good to feel good. It feels good to acknowledge it yourself.

Please, don’t wait, celebrate the gift that you are to us all!

Celebrating your unbirthday will fill your joy bucket. And this is a good thing because joy is very, very contagious.

No one gives it away quite like you do, my friend. Thanks for being born. ❤️
